James George Jatras is a specialist in international relations, government affairs, and legislative politics. Prior to joining Squire Sanders in 2007, he was a partner with another Washington DCbased law firm. Before entering the private sector he served for many years (1985-2002) as a policy adviser and analyst for the Republican leadership in the U.S. Senate; before that (1979- 1985), he was a U.S. Foreign Service Officer with the US Department of State, with service in Mexico and in Soviet affairs and public diplomacy.
Since entering the private sector in 2002, Jatras’s work has spanned a range of legislative and political issues and international affairs, including matters related to foreign policy, international security, human rights, public diplomacy, immigration, international trade and finance, and the global terror risk environment. His international experience includes work relevant to Belgium, Canada, China, Cuba, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Syria, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, the UK, and Yemen. He has also advocated in the legislative process for numerous clients in diverse areas such as appropriations, healthcare, tax, energy (including renewable), pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, immigration, security services, transportation, bioterrorism, and criminal defense.
